Publishing Vodcasts
Choose
Choose whether you want to offer your content as a download or streaming.
Encode
Encode your videos using QuickTime Pro or another MPEG4 capable encoding application. Don't forget to add the 'hint' tracks if you want to stream the videos. Note: CleanerXL does encode to MP4, but can't add the hint tracks (due to a few year old bug that lives somewhere between Cupertino and Montreal...). We advise you to use a high keyframe interval (one per 1 or 2 seconds) to prevent green screens and ghost images.
Host
Host the video's. For downloads, any powerful webserver will do. For streaming, use a modern MPEG-4 streaming server with bursting features. Stay away from Helix servers and Kasenna servers, these servers have bad performance and no bursting technology, resulting in a bad user experience for your audience. We advise QuickTime Streaming Server or XL2 Server.
Build
Build the RSS XML file. Please note that for streaming, the file size should be 1024K so (well-written) podcasting applications won't choke on a stream.
Publish
Publish the XML file and don't forget to tell us!
